Shark Rays, also called Bowmouth Guitarfish and Mudskate, are cold blooded animals that live in shallow warm bodies of water. They generally dwell 35-90 feet below sea level.

Shark rays feed on the mollusks and crustaceans at the bottom of shallow bays. To get and capture their food, they lay flat on the sea floor, trap it with their head, and sort of shake it to get the food in their mouth. They hunt by using their snout to smell because their eyes are on the top of their head, so they can’t see their prey.

Shark Rays have a predator called the Tiger Shark. To avoid Tiger Shark attacks, the shark rays have brown bodies with pale white spots to blend in with their environment.

Shark Rays also have sharp spikey ridges located on their shoulders and their back, leading onto their tail. They use these spikes to defend themselves. It’s a theory that they ram other animals when they feel threatened or in danger.
